Last of the Long runs

Friday, June 18th, 2010

So I got a week left.  Kinda of sad, but it is a new beginning.

Before I elaborate more on the future, I want to cover what I did today.

This morning before went to work I ran 2 4+, I deliberately paced myself.

This was more of a punishment run because I did not run the four plus twice last week Saturday just once.

I started my run at exactly 6AM.

My first run was OK, I completed it in 50:44

My second run I ran it in 51:52

Overall, including the small break between runs (to reset music, restart stopwatch, and record time) I ran it in 1 hour 43 minutes 34 seconds (end time was 7:43:34) or a pace of 12.04 minutes a mile.

I can live with that.

Now for the future

Next week my schedule changes dramatically, (actually it starts now), I will reduce my running, and increase me rest.  Also I will pay strict attention to my diet.

I will probably hit the gym as usual Tuesday but Friday is completely out.  Just a slow jog and a walk.

Monday my diet switches to strict.

Past next week.  I honestly don’t know.

My buddy Stephanie said this blog keeps accountability.  It is so true.  Right now, I am the plan is to close this blog off, and start a new one.  I am still flaky between Drupal and WordPress.  I need to decide and make it so quick.

Speaking for WordPress, current version is 2.9.2, after this post I will probably backup and upgrade to 3.0.

Such a long journey.

Hot Day Summer is near

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

That means my year long trek is coming to an end.

Unfortunately I forgot how hard it is to run in the heat.  I only did a 1 four plus.

Time: 46:56

It was pretty decent time  but I was supposed to do two of them.  Was too freakin hot.

I started at 4:30 PM and weighed in at 252.6, I ended at 5:45:26 (after a cooldown walk)

I did lose some weight though during the run.

Long distance running

Saturday, June 5th, 2010

I thought I was going to struggle on two Four Plus that I was running.  I actually did pretty well.  One of those days I dread going out, but the weather was nice, just got that lazy feeling.  Shook it all out after the first mile, and in the end, I was thinking I could do another lap.

Started 10:43:00

Lap 1: 48:22
Which is about an 11 minute 15 second mile.  Not bad  In fact there were two relatively long lights that hurt my time.

Lap 2 49:25
Which is about an 11 minute 30 second mile.  I didn’t think I was going to crack 50 minutes, but I did have a burst left in the end.

Final Time 12:21:53
Which means I ran 8.6 miles in 98 minutes 53 seconds w/ slight break making my pace 11 minutes 3 seconds.

Walk Lap 3 25:58.06
Nice slow cooldown walk.  I finished my entire workout at 12:49:17 meaning I was on the road for 2 hours 6 minutes 17 seconds.  For a grand total 9.7 miles at a 13 minute 1 second pace.  Although I think of it as unfair to include the cool down walk because that is what it supposed to do.  Bring you down safely.

Absolutely no worried about my weight at this stage.

OMG

Friday, May 28th, 2010

Oh My God, I did it.

Within a year 1 went from 1/2 mile to 1/2 marathon

I just finished an incredible run

Here is the breakdown of my run

Start Time 3:45:00

  1. 4+ 48:44
  2. 4+ 52:26
  3. 4+ 56:40
  4. 1 lap 17:23.60

End Time: 6:42:11

I redid the gmap for the 4+ and 1 lap

Here is the 4+

FourPlus

Four Plus Route

Here is the 1 lap
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3765125

OneLap

One Lap Around Renton Tech

So I ran the FourPlus 3 times and the One Lap once.

Here is what google says they are

GMAP Four Plus

gmaponelap

GMAP One Lap

 So (3 x 4.3) + 1.1 = 14 Miles

Start Time was 3:45:00 End Time was 6:42:11

If my math is right that is 2 hours 57 minutes 11 Seconds

Plug it into the calculator, 12.65 minutes a mile.  Look at that last lap though.  I was dying.

Glad I did it, I know I can finish the marathon.  Now I can just go back down to 8 miles a Satuday.

It is worthwhile noting, I am superexhausted right now, I had absolutely nothing left for that final mile.  Now that I am home, I barely can walk.  Tomorrow will be interesting.

Before the run I weighed in at 252 but I know what I lost was mostly water.

Milestone for Distance and for Weight

Weight: 243.8

Went to Canada Today

Friday, May 21st, 2010

Normally I do a morning run with a evening gym workout.  But I had to go to Canada so I did a four plus

Time 49:02

Pretty slow but within parameters.

Anyway tomorrow I will run the park.  Let’s see how I do, taking it easy though since I got the official 5k on Sunday.

Weight: 250.0

Oh so close

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

The current milestone for weight is 246.6

See below for today’s ready.  I did not have a new milestone for weight.  But pretty darn close.

But there was another milestone.  Last week I did 9 miles (actually more then that), today I did 10 miles.

I ran two four plus routes and a two lap, the total for that is google maps measures my route at about 10.96 miles

I started the entire workout at 10:52:00 AM and finished at 1:02:54, making my entire run with stop lights and rest between runs at 2 hours 10 minutes and 54 seconds.  So I averaged 11.94 MPH pretty darn good.

First 4+ was run at 47:03

Second 4+ was run at 51:32 (started at 11:42 after a short rest)

The Two Laps were run in reverse keeping it the same distance as a regular 4+ but changed the hill profile.

Originally I was going to run 1 lap at a time with a brief rest but  saw that I was at 14 minutes for the first lap and decided to push it.  I started at 12:35 and noted the clock at 1:02:54 but I actually pressed the stop button at 27:51.17

Not bad for a two lap.  Kind of neat because there was a recycling event at Renton Tech.

Conditions were ideal, it was not too cold where I had to bundle up and not too hot where it exhausted me more.  Sun was up entire route was dry.  I think this may have been the best running conditions I have encountered since I started this.  I even had a great sleep.

After the run, I get to look forward to some heavy yard work for several more hours to burn more calories.

On a side note, people seemed really nice today, they waved and in general were cordial.

Tonight I will eat a well deserved steak.

Long run today

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

Longest one yet

Started out the run weighing in at 252.6, weather was cool, I will be wearing a windbreaker, also it is overcast.

Marking it as a 4 plus but time is for the two times I ran it.

I started the run at 12:40

My first Four plus was OK even though I was conserving my energy

Run 49:37

My second one could have been better if it weren’t for some long lights.  To be fair, I needed the rest, towards the end my left foot started to cramp.

Run 53:40

Also added 1 lap, I was hoping to do a 2 lap but one thing is clear, I am not ready.  I probably could finish the 1/2 marathon and not get corralled but the goal is to run the whole thing, and not get corralled.

1 Lap 17:48.33 embarrassingly low.

I finished the second Four plus at 2:24:54

My legs had it on the 1 lap, it just did not want to go anymore.  I was burnt out, I could not believe it.

The ordeal ended at 2:44:04

I need more “road time”  not “treadmill” time.

Weight Makes a difference in running

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

I am not sure why but I did gain several pounds over the past week.   I will closely monitor it the next few days.

Recall last week I ran the 4+ in 47:59, today I ran it in today

Four Plus 48:33

Plus I had only 1 stop so it is worse than it looks.  I did do a a warm up lap and cool down lap, I started at 3:30 and ended at 4:49:20, round it up to 80 minutes and my average is under 12 minutes at 11.72 minutes.  So maybe I did get a better overall.

Next weekend I have Linuxfest to attend.  I will be working out earlier and may call next week Saturday and do a heavy workout on Friday which will include a 4+.  I am considering the route I ran today as a new timed route forcing me to run longer to get my body ready for the marathon.

Next time I willl try to be aware and not eat before my run.

Weight: 251.4

Curious how my weight fluctuates

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

I am curious on how much my weight changes over the course of a day.

At 1:23AM I weighed in at 254.0 before going to bed
At 8:45AM I weighed in at 252.4 immediately after waking up
At 9:20AM I weighed in at 250.4 After Bathroom
At 9:25AM I weighed in at 251.4 After Medication
At 11:20AM official weight See Below After my morning workout
At 8:32PM weighed in at 250.8 After coming home from Tulip Festival

I ran what I felt was a pretty good run for a 4 plus but the time did not really represent how I felt when running.
Time: 47:59
I truly felt I was running faster.  It was colder, so I was wearing more clothes, I am slightly heavier because I did fast (not eat) on Friday, also this was more of a morning run vs an early evening run.

I started my run at 9:55AM but it was a 1 lap, I started my official run at about 10:11AM (estimate), as mentioned above my official timed run was 47:59, a glanced at the time when I finished my run and it was about 11:01, and I was done at 11:17:59 let’s just say 11:18 AM since the entire run was not off stopwatch.

So my total workout for about 6.823 miles was done in 83 minutes, which is slightly more than a 12 minute mile.

Here is the route http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3625473

No too shabby at all.  Also I guess I have met the weight loss criteria.

Awesome Sleep + Awesome Weight = Awesome Run

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

After days, almost 2 weeks of weird sleep, last night I finally got a good sleep.

I did a warm up walk of 1 lap then I started my run which I timed at 45:54 which is pretty darn good considering my record is 45:07.

I ended up with another lap.  I know I started at about 5:15PM and I completed at about 6:45PM.   I think I lot of time was in the first lap but I did nearly 6.5 miles (maybe more) in 90 minutes.  Double that and I will have done the half marathon.

As for my weight, oh so close to the 246.6 record.
