My Conviction

Monday, July 13th, 2009

So I went for an evening walk in the rain.  Seems kind of foolish but I had to do it.  Why?  Because if I didn’t then reasons to not work out would come easily.

This light rain should not be enough to to stop me from working out.  Granted, I could run on our treadmill at home or go to the gym at work.  But this walk in the rain was to prove to myself I am willing to do what it takes.

Thunder did start and in the future that will be one of those safety issues that does stop me.  But for now, I know a little rain will not.

Taking it easy

Actually, the more accurate statement is I am working my normal workout (Run/Walk in the AM, and 2 mile walk in the evening) even though today is a weekend day.

Basically I am not overworking myself today.

Today marks 3 weeks into this blog.  In about 10 days I will hit the 1 month mark.  From my progress so far, I will say I am on target to lose 10 lbs for this month which is on the high end.

In 9 weeks it will be the start of regular season NFL games.  I would love to be in th 260’s by the start.  There is an outside chance I can crack 260 and maybe touch the 250’s.  That will require supreme effort.  As big of a wall 282 is for me.  That 260 one is huge.

The next one is 240 which I have cracked once this century.

My wife has never seen me in the 220’s because we started dating when I was in the 230’s, and anything under that, will be just plain amazing.

The 200 mark is so far away, I can’t fathom how tough it is.  By then my BMR will be so low, that it will be tough triming a pound in a week.

For now… reality.

What an incredible morning!!!!!

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

Yesterday I posted high hopes for this weekend.  Even if everything is a wash for the rest of the weekend, I still feel super good just for today.

Just a side note, before I ran I jumped on the scale and it was 285.0.  WOW!!!

I did my 1+3 which consists of basically a run upill for 1 mile then a walk home.  The conditions were perfect… I was well rested (nice deep 6 1/2 hour sleep), I was breathing well, the weather was not so cold I had to wear a wind breaker, yet not too hot where I would have dehydrated too quickly.  My body cooperated and did not make me use the bathroom halfway through my run.  My pace was good too, the first time I did this route a barely made it before the end of my workout playlist.  Today, I almost beat it by two songs.  If I moved just a wee bit faster I would have.  The only thing I regret was not running the first 2 miles (then wouldn’t it be a 2+2?).

This may be deserving of a single 1+1 workout tomorrow.

I feel good.  Especially after I got my official weight, yeah I acknowledge this will go up, but it puts me really close to that 282 wall I hit last year.   I would love to destroy the plateau before July is up.  I got 19 days.

Awesome weekend coming up

Friday, July 10th, 2009

If you recall last weekend was brutal.  But I work for a good company and they gave me another 3 day weekend to replace the 3 day weekend that broke.  Technically I had a 1.5 day weekend.

Anyway, this is Friday, I have a triple workout today. Run/Walk, Gym, and a Walk.

Saturday 4 mile, with 1 mile run uphill.  I still thinking of a name for that route… maybe my 1+3?

Sunday I am considering just doing a single Run/Walk, but we’ll see how the evening goes.  I may do some sprints.

Monday I would like to do another 1+3.

And Tuesday, another gym day.

Exciting couple of days coming up.

Oh yeah yesterday evening, instead of 2 mile walk I did 3.  I think it paid off, check it out.

Getting Darker

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

I noticed today when I went out to run at 5:15 that the street lights were still on.  Soon I will be running in the dark and have to look at wearing reflective material.

Man what is up with the weight creep.  I ate twice yesterday, I am pretty sure I had less than 2000 calories.  Anyway, still under 290.  Will see what happens when next week Saturday.  I should be hitting weight under 287.

Had a better morning run

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

I have today off for a bit so I slept in a bit.  But I did have a Livemeeting regarding that fire at Fisher Plaza today.

When I got up and started my run, I knew I could not dilly dally, so I actually had a nice paced quick run.

Muscles hurt a little from yesterday.  But feels good.

Not too worried about my weight yet.  I think today’s weight is an accurate representation of what my weight should be after 2 and a half weeks.

My Second Try at the Gym

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

OK, the first workout at the gym at work was not a real workout.  More like seeing what the machines could do.

Today was a little more real.

After a 10 minute treadmill warm up, I hit the weights.  I benched the bar which is only 45 lbs but it was more to work on form.

I then hit the dips, and finally did some curls.  While doing curls my arms started to cramp.  Ouch, I guess I need to work into it slower.  I really like the gym and need to figure out how I can work it into my schedule.  Also will get a book on yoga tomorrow just to see what I need to know.

AM ruined by BM

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

So I start off my morning run at a pretty good pace.  I am thinking, woohoo, awesome pace.  I got new shoes, there was a slight drizzle.

Then mother nature says otherwise.  She made me have to go to the bathroom near the end of my 1 mile run.

Don’t you hate it.  Also you have that dilemma, “Should I run to beat the clock or do I need to slow down to prevent an accident?”

Tonight I will work out at the work gym.  Also need to do an “Equalizer”.

Finally, weird double post on the yoga.  I guess it takes wordpress a while to save it to the mysql database.

Shall I do Yoga

Monday, July 6th, 2009

So there huge psychological barrier at 282 lbs.

Last year I could not break it for 3 months. So maybe a change of activity will be in order to “trick” my body.

My little clique at work consisting of Abbie, Alison, and Rob are all saying I should try yoga. I am resisting the idea because I am fat, I don’t want to embarass myself, and generally, my workouts are a private thing. (Please open a curves for men).

We’ll see though, if I can hit 240 without Yoga I think I’ll feel better with my self esteem when I do try to twist my body.

To Yoga or Not to Yoga

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Well I am closing in on 282lb which is a psychological barrier for me. You see last year I hit 282 and from March to June, I could not break that weight.

So the other members of my little clique at work consisting of Abbie, Alison, and Rob is recommending that I take Yoga to help with my breating and sleep apnea.

I think this may be a step I should take to break the monotony of my workout. The issue I have is that I want to be lighter (hopefully more flexible) when I do join because it would be a big blow to my self esteem if I “tear something”

I was hoping to be around 240 when I begin flexing on a a yoga mat.

We’ll see though.
