Working out with my son

Well today I was supposed to run a 5k but instead just ran a single lap because my son decided to run with me and he could not keep up.

Anyway, it was a good experience and I will try to find a way to make it work and still get my running in.

Still calling it a milestone.

I did feel like I am losing endurance.  We’ll see Wednesday if I still got it for the 1000 calorie workout.

So I am in Canada, I ran Central once, its a little more than 2 miles, also it was a bit modified due to some construction.

I think I could have done better, wrong shoes, had to stop to tie them twice, also had to use bathroom.  Unlike at home where I have to run 2 laps and can “pinch it” if I needed to, I had to run the whole thing and get home so I can let mother nature to its thing.

No scale no weigh in.

Excuses

Today is Mother’s day and I really did not have a good workout.  I was going to do yoga but I got so busy during the day.  So my lack of exercise is kind of bothering me.

It shouldn’t, but let me explain why it does.  For the past few weeks my buddy Rob has been bailing out on the workouts.  I worry for him because we both signed up for a 5k, and although it is not much for me (amazing I can say that), I think he underestimates how far that is if you are out of shape.  Anyway he has been coming up with 1 excuse after another.

So I come to my dilemma, how do I determine when I am full of it myself and when I do indeed need to either take a break or simply don’t have time.

I think the thing to say up front what are valid excuses for not working out

  • Injury and Sickness – I think those are the only ones for sure I got a pass on.
  • Worked out too hard and need to heal – Sometimes, the body just needs rest.  If I have worked out for more than two hours the day before, then I get a pass.
  • Run/Race Major Athletic Event – Anything 5k or more the next day that is official, then I get a rest day to prepare for it.
  • Timezone change – Weird, rarely happens but it does, when I travel to Philippines I almost lose a day.
  • Weekend getaway/Trip where there is a strict schedule – Like Linuxfest or a seminar.
  • Work related emergency – Example is the fire at work.  Yeah I get a pass on that one.

Excuse I cannot use

  • Busy – Never an excuse, unless there is a schedule of events where I have less then 10 hours of time after.

So there you have it, we will see.

As for today, it was busy, but the reason I need to rest is the huge run I had yesterday and the vigorous yard work yesterday.

Oh yeah as an off topic side note.  Today is Mother’s day, I wish My Mom, Wife, and Mother In Law, Happy Mother’s day.

My wife wanted some bark to pretty up our property.  So I purchased 10 cubic yards and as a joke put a sign up that this is her Mother’s day gift.

She can take a joke. And to my friends, I was not in the doghouse for this.  In fact the yardwork was great family time.  Also her real gift was a bag she really wanted.

Amazingly big weight swing.  I’m not worried, I think I’ll crap it out tomorrow.

Wish I had a pool

Well, I am at Linuxfest, and my workout has been altered.

I normally run a 4+ today but I did some pushups and situps.

But I also did some workout in the pool.  Also dunked my self in the Jacuzzi.

I feel tired like I did run a 4+, I wish I had a pool at home to do laps.

Maybe when I’m rich 🙂

In Canada, Not doing much

This is 3 weeks I believe that I have been hobbled.  Its amazing how much pain I am going though.

Anyway, I will go to Doctor’s on Monday or at least try to get some new meds.

No Weigh In, in Canada and my scale is not here.  But the good news is the last time I was here, the scale could not accomidate me cause it only went to 256.  So it can weigh me.  I jumped on and it reported 253.

I ran the two lap this morning.  I can’t stress how dark it is.  Lucky my route has enough lighting that it makes it OK.  At least it wasn’t raining and not that cold.  My time was a record 25:01.56.  I just needed to kick it into gear just a tad then I would have made a new record.  I might as well start recording this run.

Will do gym workout this evening as well.

Probably last day in Canada for a while

So I ran the Central Park run twice today and had a decent time.  It was not quite 5 mile but I did get a time of 54:06.

I like running this route but I have a feeling it will be a while before I can run this route again.  I like this route because it is different, relatively flat and the scenery is nice.   Who knows, maybe I will get another chance this year but it is unlikely.  There is a chance that I will run it before the year is out.

No weight today, but when I got home I did jump an the scale and it was 259.  Not official so I will not dwell on it.  I am working out in the office gym tomorrow morning so my weight will not be the normal weigh in after my workout.

My next work out that I can weigh in will be Tuesday.

Feel cold but my body feels warm

Something interesting is happening with my body, lately it has been feeling like I was heating up inside but I was feeling cold.

Let me elaborate, although I do not feel sick, I feel like my body is heated up like a have a fever.  Also I feel cold like I need an extra layer of clothes. 

Multiple people have told me this may be because my metabolism has kicked it up a notch which is good.  I may be finally burning more and more calories (hopefully fat) because my body is trying to heat itself up and keep it going.

I am relatively excited at this new development in my body.  This upcoming Friday I will meet with my regular doctor for a physical.  One of the things I want to bring up is this heated feeling I am getting.
