Woohoo First Race

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

Was pretty exciting.  I did not do well compared to others but I did run better than a 10 minute mile.

Here are  the stats

My 5k Time

A little disappointing but OK

I placed 421th out of I dunno how many, I think 700.  My number was 27, I placed 43rd out of 54 in my age group, My chip time was 30:34 which is when I crossed the Start Line to When I crossed the finish line, my gun time was 31:13 which was when the gun was fired to when I crossed the finish line.  My pace was 9:52 which I am really happy with.

I may be disappointed when I compare myself to others, but I am happy when I look at the progress I made.  I could not do this a year ago.  I recall running the third runway at Seatac and barely finished.

Couple things I did right,

  • I got there early enough to prepare mentally, but not too early to tire myself out
  • Well hydrated
  • Slept Well
  • Had documentation and ID I needed
  • Bus route

Couple things need to remember for next time

  • Although I did pee before the race, maybe pee again
  • Got bus route home, but need better overall map
  • Take advantage of the where they hold the bags.

Some pics, I got more, but this is enough

Start 5k

Starting Line of the 5k

Got there early enough to take pictures of the starting point

RFID Tag

Tag to track progress

Got there early enough to get my shirt on and RFID tag.  Normally I would be doing this at home though.  But I was not in Seattle Saturday to pic up my race packet.

I am at the 52 second mark, if you followed my blog you know what to look for.

Yeah this is this first image of me in my blog.

This was totally fun, after getting home, getting lunch and a little nap, I felt really really good.

Looking forward to the 1/2 Marathon, already feel butterflies in my stomach.

Oh so close

The current milestone for weight is 246.6

See below for today’s ready.  I did not have a new milestone for weight.  But pretty darn close.

But there was another milestone.  Last week I did 9 miles (actually more then that), today I did 10 miles.

I ran two four plus routes and a two lap, the total for that is google maps measures my route at about 10.96 miles

I started the entire workout at 10:52:00 AM and finished at 1:02:54, making my entire run with stop lights and rest between runs at 2 hours 10 minutes and 54 seconds.  So I averaged 11.94 MPH pretty darn good.

First 4+ was run at 47:03

Second 4+ was run at 51:32 (started at 11:42 after a short rest)

The Two Laps were run in reverse keeping it the same distance as a regular 4+ but changed the hill profile.

Originally I was going to run 1 lap at a time with a brief rest but  saw that I was at 14 minutes for the first lap and decided to push it.  I started at 12:35 and noted the clock at 1:02:54 but I actually pressed the stop button at 27:51.17

Not bad for a two lap.  Kind of neat because there was a recycling event at Renton Tech.

Conditions were ideal, it was not too cold where I had to bundle up and not too hot where it exhausted me more.  Sun was up entire route was dry.  I think this may have been the best running conditions I have encountered since I started this.  I even had a great sleep.

After the run, I get to look forward to some heavy yard work for several more hours to burn more calories.

On a side note, people seemed really nice today, they waved and in general were cordial.

Tonight I will eat a well deserved steak.

Ran a 5k

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

I think since I work from home on Mondays, I will shoot to run a 5k if weather permits.

It was pretty cold and windy today but dry,

I thought my time would have been worse but I think I did alright.  In fact I beat the last 5k time I ran which was 36:57.  So its a milestone.

Run: 36:37

Still feeling the effects of drinking too much.  Yesterday’s rest was needed,  I learn me lesson, no drinking till June 21 (the anniversary of this blog)

Finally, speaking of 5K

Long run today

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

Longest one yet

Started out the run weighing in at 252.6, weather was cool, I will be wearing a windbreaker, also it is overcast.

Marking it as a 4 plus but time is for the two times I ran it.

I started the run at 12:40

My first Four plus was OK even though I was conserving my energy

Run 49:37

My second one could have been better if it weren’t for some long lights.  To be fair, I needed the rest, towards the end my left foot started to cramp.

Run 53:40

Also added 1 lap, I was hoping to do a 2 lap but one thing is clear, I am not ready.  I probably could finish the 1/2 marathon and not get corralled but the goal is to run the whole thing, and not get corralled.

1 Lap 17:48.33 embarrassingly low.

I finished the second Four plus at 2:24:54

My legs had it on the 1 lap, it just did not want to go anymore.  I was burnt out, I could not believe it.

The ordeal ended at 2:44:04

I need more “road time”  not “treadmill” time.

Working out with a partner

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

I usually workout solo.  I like the focus and time to myself.  It is a time where I burn off steam and can contemplate.  Once and a while I will work out with someone else and it is fun, usually time goes by faster.

Today is unusual in that this is the first time this entire year that I recorded I have worked out with my wife.

She has lost a lot of weight.  Before this blog started.  But during the past few months she has gained a bit, not a lot, but enough where she has upped the intensity and frequency of her workouts.

So today, after her treadmill run she joined me in the workout video.  She did not do the entire thing, but she did most of it.

It was really enjoyable.  We have to do it again.  I have to mark this day as a milestone.

Emotion Sure Does Help

Monday, April 12th, 2010

I won’t go into it in detail but sometimes people say things that just piss you off.

I don’t know if it was the coffee or the harassment, but boy did I feel like running today.  One of the reasons I run is to blow off steam, and blow off steam I did, on my way to a new record.

I started of with a warm up lap then actually did my timed two lap and finished with another lap walk.  It helped.

Time: 23:34.72

After my run I was not so tired, but emotionally was more controlled.

Wow, side note about my weight:  It is staying down.

Weight: 249.6

Wow, nailed it

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

What an Easter Gift.

I am getting faster.  Also I think a warm up walk of 1 lap does the trick.

A new 2 lap record.  I really did feel my legs flying

Two Lap: 23:37.72

What a super run.  I was breathing well (thanks to a generic claritin) and I wasn’t too tired from yesterdays excellent run.

At first I was getting nervous cause I felt some pain in my left foot creeping in.  Still this is official and a record.

Another cool thing today is I can eat meat again.

As for the weightm 1 more day then I am officially under 250.

Cool New Milestone

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

It has been a while since I reached any new milestones.   Today I ran a 4+, the time was OK, 48:19.  In fact if I looked correctly it is my third best run.  Not sure but still pretty decent.  As of right now the record stands at 45:07.

So I need to really improve in order to break that time, and mark my words, I will.

What makes today significant is that I did not stop or walk at all.  I timed the lights so I could run through intersections safely, I went around cars, and most of all, there is this one slope at about mile 2.5 that I have walked through in the past.

Today I powered through it.

Today my weigh was as normal as could be.  Conditions were great for running and I think I trimmed some pounds when running.  One the still bothers me a lot.

I keep asking myself, “Why is it so hard to crack 250?”

Is it getting brighter?

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Things have been improving.  My feet are holding up, and I am feeling so much better.

But daylight is getting here sooner.  So I may be able to run in the morning again.

Rock and Roll Baby!!!

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

Woohoo, now I am committed to going, spent my money and am ready to go!!!

Half Marathon 2010 Registration

Foot also feels so much better, barely limping.  New meds are doing its job.  I will be back on my normal workout schedule in a week.  I hope.
